The Bitterroot Valley Community College Effort

The Bitterroot Valley Community College effort formally commenced in February of 2006 with the establishment of the Bitterroot Valley Community College Exploratory Committee (BVCC-EC).  The group was originally comprised of individuals associated with the Bitterroot Valley Workforce System - an organization including more than 20 countywide partners and under the leadership of the Bitterroot Job Service and the Human Resource Council.  The BVCC-EC was dedicated to educating Ravalli County residents about the services, benefits, and costs of a public community college and the process of establishing a public community college. The BVCC-EC spearheaded a petition drive in the fall of 2006 which succeeded in gathering over 5000 signatures and resulted in the placement of the BVCC organizing proposition on local school election ballots in May of 2007.  Following success at the polls, the BVCC-EC reorganized as the Bitterroot Valley Community College Steering Committee (BVCC-SC).  The new group has redirected its efforts to state-level advocacy and is dedicated to securing legal recognition of the BVCC district from the state of Montana.
